Start Your Summer Off With A Bang!

The largest FREE Memorial Day Weekend event in the Midwest returns for its eighth year! The Kansas City Symphony, led by Music Director Michael Stern, perform patriotic favorites against the backdrop of Kansas City’s historic Union Station on Sunday, May 30 at 7:30PM. Bank of America Celebration at the Station concludes with blazing fireworks above the National WWI Museum at Liberty Memorial – Kansas City’s largest fireworks display of the year! The Kansas City Symphony is grateful to Bank of America for making this gift to our city possible.

Grounds open at 3:00PM for this free community event. Food and beverages will be available for purchase both inside and outside of Union Station, including hamburgers, cotton candy, funnel cakes, gyros, kettle korn, and ice cream. Come early to enjoy Memorial Day Weekend activities at the National WWI Museum at Liberty Memorial, the National Archives, and the special Dinosaurs Unearthed exhibit and Dinosaurs Alive3-D movie at Union Station. At 4:30PM, pre-concert entertainment begins with the United States Air Force Brass in Blue. The Symphony takes the stage at 7:30PM for a rousing set of orchestral music to celebrate all things American, including the 1812 Overture, complete with live firing cannons! Special guests this year include Time for Three, Contemporary Christian Music artist and Colby, Kansas native Mark Schultz, Commander of the Combined Arms Center and Fort Leavenworth, Lieutenant General Robert Caslen, Jr., and special guest host Len Dawson. At 9:15PM, all heads will turn to the sky over the National WWI Museum at Liberty Memorial for a stunning display of choreographed fireworks, bursting to the beat of patriotic music. This fireworks display is one of the largest staged in the Midwest.

Families attending the free outdoor performance by the Kansas City Symphony and the fireworks display are encouraged to bring blankets and lawn chairs. For those who cannot attend, Bank of America Celebration at the Station, will be broadcast live again this year on KCPT Channel 19 starting at 7:30PM on Sunday, May 30. A rebroadcast of the concert will be scheduled to air over the Fourth of July Weekend. In addition, numerous public television stations throughout the region will rebroadcast Bank of America Celebration at the Station. Check your local listings for broadcast dates and times.

PLEASE NOTE: THE GROUNDS ON THE NORTH SIDE OF THE NATIONAL WWI MUSEUM AT LIBERTY MEMORIAL WERE NOT AFFECTED BY THE RECENT ROCKFEST EVENT. YOU MAY ENJOY THE CONCERT FROM THIS GRASSY AREA AS IN THE PAST.
